What is the future of car ownership? I have always been a spellbound lover and loyal but ‘keyboard fan’ of cars and driving since I knew girls and boys had some special chemistry.
Growing up, owning a car inspired in me a sense of success and class. Car owners and drivers had a certain mystical aura. Especially manual car owners effortlessly juggling the gear stick who seemingly had everything under control.
Not that this regard has died down, but it strangely has metamorphosed into an obsession. I still see them as honorable achievements, despite my impatiently balding head, and the rapid evolution of the car. Especially the ongoing green motoring revolution that is quickly changing the motoring landscape.
Chicken-shed GearHead
I remember in my teens I would sit on the chicken shed stairs, overlooking the highway, not too far, and recognize each passing car, by make and model. At night, I could recognize an approaching car based on the headlights, to the amazement of my cousins. I always knew I would get into the auto industry, but I did not know how.
I dream of someday owning a car collection. If you ask me which is my favorite car, I would probably be befuddled. It would be a list similar to a math calculus answer. What am I even saying? A GTR, G-wagon, 70 series, BMW 325i, Nissan safari short-chassis, Forester XT, Legacy wagon 90s model et.al. Well, like a child, one wouldn’t be enough.
Of importance for now, however, is owning my first car. Hence, the reason for this blog. I intend to learn and share with those who share my goal and those who have been fortunate enough to own car/s or have a thing or two they can share as we look at the future of the auto industry given the increase in a younger population keen on technology and convenience.
What is the Future of Car Ownership?
The future of car ownership will be an interesting one to watch. Key technology disruptions continue to shake the auto industry. Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are gradually growing, especially in the logistics and public transportation sectors. The technology is sure to disrupt and transform how we travel, as well as how we transport things. Not forgetting the electric vehicle revolution that slowly took root over the course of the last decade and is now mainstream, with all major automakers having hybrid and EV variants. Let’s get to it.
