This long-term online and physical exposure to the automobile industry may have blinded me. I thought I knew a lot about electric and hybrid cars and, the surrounding technology. However, I am getting nasty butts of facts each new day.
The Enlightenment: Electric and Hybrid Cars
My first encounter with a hybrid car in Kenya was over a year ago. I had visited my buddy in one of Nairobi’s leafy suburbs. I excused myself to go to the local watering hole to get his favorite gin as a sign of affluence.
On my way back, walking in the middle of one of the estate ‘closes’ I unexpectedly noticed a car grille right behind me. I almost dropped the affluent gift.
Shock on me, the car was a hybrid Toyota Prius. As sure as the sky is blue, the car was as quiet as a woman the first day and a half after she was married. Normally you can tell a car is approaching from kilometers away, especially in my hometown of Nyathuna, Kiambu.
Seeing how perplexed I was despite my larger-than-life posture, the kind driver stopped. He humbly apologized and even gave a review of the technology around electric and hybrid cars. Being the keyboard gearhead I was, I was amazed by my admirable ignorance, and this picked my interest. I will be discussing findings, and research from my experiences.
